11 Painted Corner

Some dog breeders have painted themselves into a corner.

They have bred a variety of ever more extreme show type dogs with what is sometimes called "banana backs" and "frog's legs". .

What to do?

Well they could spay & neuter their dogs.

WHAT? Neuter show dogs? Oh, no, that is what we write on contracts for people who buy puppies from us. We should not have to abide by those rules..

They could recognise that they are breeding guard dogs and cross their dogs with another guard dog breed like the Doberman.

WHAT? Let our dogs mate dogs that don't look like them? Cross the breed line? Oh! Oh! Oh No!.

I tried. Let me try again.

If you are breeding dogs to have a profession, like guard dog, sheepdog, sled dog, then you breed those dogs together that are good at that profession - especially if they don't look alike, that means they are less likely to be inbred..

If you are selling puppies as pets, you should breed them to be good pets. Produce healthy puppies who grow up to want to please and who have good tempers.

What could you cross your breed with that would result in a hybrid dog with traits that would make them a better pet?.

Standard Poodles? Norweign Elkhounds? Beagles? Shelties? Dobermans? Boxers?

Any dog that has normal features, a normal back, and normal legs..

Switch to breeding a hybrid dog, switch to working lines of dogs, or do what you tell everybody else to do when you don't like their dogs - Have your dogs castrated, and your females spayed.

Taste your own medicine. Leave breeding dogs for those who know how to do it right.
